At the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, our focus on quality health care is two-fold: supporting our facilities that offer state-of-the-art medical and care services to residents while also continuing to grow a highly skilled medical needs workforce.

The medical industry remains one of our top employers, and filling needs in that industry is extremely important. That’s why both of our branch colleges—Coastal Alabama Community College and the University of South Alabama Baldwin County (USABC)—have expanded their nursing and allied health programs in recent years. USABC moved its nursing degree program into a 20,503-square-foot facility adjacent to the City’s municipal complex, and two years ago, Faulkner opened the three-story John L. Borom Center for Applied Sciences on the Fairhope campus. Both of these institutions continue to increase their course offerings for undergraduate and graduate students in the health care field, offering state-of-the-art teaching technology.

Thomas Hospital/Infirmary Health
Since it first opened as a community hospital some 50 years ago, Thomas Hospital, now part of the Infirmary Health family, has grown and expanded ten-fold and now frequently receives recognition for its outstanding service. November 2012 marked the ten-year anniversary for Thomas Hospital’s cardiac program, noted as a Thomson Reuters "Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital” for years. In 2012, the National Research Corporation awarded the hospital a Consumer Choice Award, identifying it as a hospital that healthcare consumers have chosen as having the highest quality in over 300 markets throughout the United States. And Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama has recognized Thomas Hospital as a Star Performer, with a score of 96 percent.

Other Infirmary Health facilities on the Eastern Shore include Thomas Medical Center, located in the heart of Daphne and providing outpatient surgery, diagnostics, and physical therapy; and Infirmary Eastern Shore, also in Daphne and conveniently located near I-10, which offers pain management, lab services, and diagnostic testing.

Long-Term Care, Home Care, and Rehabilitation
Building on decades of service and care, Mercy Medical has transitioned from residential care to home health and hospice care. The program includes transportation to and from the LIFE Health Center, where patients receive clinical and rehabilitation services. Mercy Home offers alternative care for homebound individuals of any age who do not require hospitalization need ongoing care, pain management, treatment or instruction. Mercy Hospice is designed with interdisciplinary care for end-stage illnesses.

Eastern Shore Rehabilitation & Health Center in Daphne, offers a secure residential facility with sub-acute medical care, complex medical management, pain management, rehabilitation services and 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents enjoy community outings and entertainment and are encouraged to participate in daily programs and activities designed to provide both physical and mental stimulation.

New to our community is Sagora Senior Living. In 2011, the company acquired Catherine Place and the John McClure Snook Memory Care Community in Daphne, along with the residential communities Carroll Place and The Hamlet in Fairhope. These properties were previously been owned and operated by Mercy Medical Center. Together, the four communities comprise 220 total units, including 155 assisted living apartments, 64 memory care apartments, and 18 independent living cottages, now renamed The Brennity at Daphne and The Brennity at Fairhope.
