Sheriff Mack Chairs Prodisee Pantry Mayday

Baldwin County Sheriff Huey "Hoss” Mack will serve as Honorary Chairman of Prodisee Pantry’s Mayday 2016 campaign to raise awareness of hunger in the local community.

Founded in 2003, Prodisee, a name which means "benefitting the world”, is located in Spanish Fort and serves the needs of families from all over Baldwin County.  This non-profit agency serves 1200 local families in crisis each month. In 2015, Prodisee Pantry volunteers distributed 644 tons of fresh, frozen and staple food items to almost 15,000 families. While government regulations for assistance can sometimes take weeks to complete, Prodisee does an initial screening to determine clients’ needs and assists senior citizens, single parents, the unemployed and homeless, grandparents raising grandchildren in their home and others in need in a matter of a few days.  According to Deann Servos, director of the food pantry, "no one leaves Prodisee Pantry hungry.”  She also points out that in addition to food, the Pantry also provides encouragement, access to GED and job placement, referrals for legal help and counseling to their clients.

According to Sheriff Mack, "Prodisee Pantry is truly a ministry based in love.  The unconditional attitude of service through food is very unique.” Sheriff Mack and other volunteers are hosting community luncheons on April 7th and April 21st at the Prodisee site for businesses and individuals who are interested in providing financial support for the coming year.  The Fill the Plate campaign will distribute red plates with the Prodisee logo that they hope to fill with $500 donations per plate.  PATCH, the high school student volunteers at Prodisee, will also participate in the Fill the Plate campaign by raising funds from friends, family and other local youth organizations in which the PATCH students participate.  The Mayday 2016 fundraising and community awareness campaign will conclude with an Open House at the Prodisee Pantry site at 9315 Spanish Fort Road on Sunday, May 1st.
