Premier Medical Group Congratulates Winners of Gift of Hearing Essay Contest

Submitted: Premier Medical Group

Mobile, Ala. (April 3, 2019) – Premier Medical Group would like to congratulate the winners of their Gift of Hearing essay contest, Joyelle Wilson and Joshua Fillingim.

The Premier Audiology Department held a Gift of Hearing essay contest, where the winners received a brand-new set of hearing devices. Participants were asked to submit an essay of up to 300 words explaining why they or someone they knew would benefit from the hearing devices. The winner was selected by a panel of local community representatives based on their compelling story.

Premier Medical Group received many essay entries from many worthy individuals in the community and their families and friends. Selecting a winner was difficult and, after much deliberation, the panel chose Wilson and Fillingim to be the lucky recipients of new hearing aids.

Wilson learned about the contest when she brought her husband in to see Dr. Lee. She said she saw the contest on the counter and said, "Why not? You can’t win if you don’t try.”

In response to how hearing loss has affected her life, Wilson explained, "There are so many things that you don’t notice in your everyday life if you don’t have both ears. Those are so many things you miss that you don’t realize that you’re losing half of it.”

Wilson hopes that the hearing devices will help her better understand her children, especially in the car, and said, "Not having to look to someone else to translate for me, I will consider a success.”

When Fillingim was asked why he was excited to win the hearing devices, he said, "I love to win, and I love to hear.” He explained that the first thing he was excited to hear with his new devices was the "preacher preach.”

Premier Medical Group’s Audiology Department is directed by Elizabeth Pickett. Premier Hearing Group would like to thank the community for partnering with them and promoting the event. The Gift of Hearing essay contest will be an annual event, and the practice looks forward to continuing to give the gift of hearing for many years to come.
