Newest Physician Marc Raj of Comprehensive Pain & Rehabilitation Presented Case Study at The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Annual Assembly
Submitted: Comprehensive Pain & Rehabilitation
FAIRHOPE, Ala. (November 6, 2018) – Dr. Marc Raj, of Comprehensive Pain & Rehabilitation, presented a case study during the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s Annual Assembly in Orlando, Fla., in October 2018.
The presentation detailed the case of a professional athlete who tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). After removing some of the athlete’s own stem cells, they were injected into the impacted area. Three months later, the patient reported that he was no longer in pain. Images taken six months after the injection appeared to show that at least one bundle of the ACL had been restored, when compared to images taken after the patient’s injury. The case demonstrates, according to Dr. Raj, the potential for healing of at least one bundle of the ACL when certain conditions are present.
"It’s important to share ideas with colleagues and stay up-to-date on how the field is progressing,” Raj said. "Regenerative medicine is still considered a niche field in health care. We are working to spread awareness of how minimally invasive procedures, such as platelet and stem cell injections, are helping athletes and active adults bounce back from painful injuries.” (Photo: Marc Alexander Raj, DO)
The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) is the national medical specialty organization representing more than 9,000 physicians who are specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R).
Raj joined Comprehensive Pain & Rehabilitation in September, 2018, following a fellowship at the Bodor Clinic Regenerative Spine and Sports Medicine in Napa, California.
