Family learning classes go virtual at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital

Mobile, Al (May 26, 2020) -- USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital offers virtual family learning classes to help participants amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing guidelines are in place to combat the spread of the virus, however, the hospital wants to provide education to participants as they are preparing for the birth of their child and for care after delivery.

The classes include "Preparing for Childbirth” and "Childbirth in a Nutshell.” Topics include changes in pregnancy, explanation of vaginal and cesarean births and postpartum recovery. "Understanding Breastfeeding” is another class being offered virtually. Participants have the opportunity to learn about correct positioning, how to get your baby to latch, returning to work and problem solving.

"This is a wonderful opportunity our educators wanted to provide to the community to let them know we are still here to help them, even during a crisis,” said Chris Jett, hospital administrator. "We understand the need for education and plan to offer these classes as long as possible for the community.”

Participants of these classes will also get virtual tour of the hospital and its maternity areas. "Every expectant parent deserves access to education to prepare them for childbirth and the opportunity to ask questions regarding the care they will receive at our hospital,” said Brooke Olson, RN, hospital inservice specialist. "Every family needs that peace of mind knowing that our team will provide the best care for them during an uncertain time.”
