Bayside Academy Hosts Satellite EARTH Teacher Workshop

Daphne, Ala., October 8, 2018 – Bayside Academy was proud to host a Satellite EARTH Teacher Workshop on Friday, October 5, 2018. Teachers from Bayside, Christ the King, the Dixon School of Arts & Sciences in Pensacola, McGill-Toolen, Spanish Fort High School, and St. Luke’s Episcopal School attended the event.

The Education and Research: Testing Hypotheses (EARTH) program is a project of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). According to MBARI, EARTH "is a professional development program that brings together educators and researchers with the goal of bringing real data into classrooms.”

Participating teachers heard from two scientists from the University of West Florida: Dr. Dave Dawson ("How Bluetooth Beacons can be Applied to Inquiry Learning Models”) and Dr. Alexis Janosik ("Antarctic Marine Ecosystems vs. Human Impacts”). Following the presentations from these local scientists engaged in current research, the teachers collaborated to create lesson plans incorporating near/real-time data into their curriculum.
