ADOR Urging Small Businesses to Prepare to Seek Federal Assistance

MONTGOMERY, April 2, 2020 – The Alabama Department of Revenue will communicate today directly with business owners, urging them to seek federal assistance to weather a troubled economy triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Revenue will send email messages to businesses, as well as utilize the My Alabama Taxes portal (MAT). The department would like to stress that these messages and emails are legitimate, and that small business owners should act quickly to get the assistance they need.

As Governor Kay Ivey noted on Wednesday, final guidelines for how the federal government will distribute financial relief to Alabama’s small businesses will be released soon. In the meantime, small business owners should contact their local banker, accountant, financial advisor or credit union to get the latest details about who is eligible, what documents are needed, and how best to apply for funding relief caused by the coronavirus.

The emails from the department will include Governor Ivey’s press release issued on Wednesday, as well as links to a letter from the Governor and Paycheck Protection Program borrower information. The MAT messages will include the letter and borrower information.
